Illegal immigration is still very much a problem today, not to mention legal immigration, which is already a bane to US President, Donald Trump. One of the most used routes into the US for illegal immigrants is Mexico, which is closest to the US. After President Donald Trump made immigration public enemy number one in the US, a lot of pressure has been on Mexico to tighten its own borders. Late last week, a caravan of over 2,000 migrants was halted in the Mexican town of Huehuecan by Mexican forces as a crackdown on illegal migration continues in the country. iMiMatch users will surely be on high alert, especially those from Africa, and the Caribbean, hoping family and loved ones were not among.
After departing from the state of Chiapas, the migrants were making the long walk through the fields, before being interrupted by the Mexican National Guard on Saturday afternoon. Most of the migrants were from Africa, the Caribbean, and Central America, a fact that is sure to spark concerns and inquiry amongst iMiMatch users and other immigrants in the US, who may have loved ones among. In every US, state, at least 1 in 10 immigrants live with an undocumented relative.
Following their halt, some of the migrants opted to walk back to Tapachula in Chiapas, while others were chased down in the fields as they tried to escape the authorities. Most of the immigrants were detained and will travel by bus back to Chiapas. Mexico signed a deal with the US back in June, which promised to curb transit of illegal migrants across their borders into the US if the US would cut back on tariffs imposed on Mexican exports. As the number of migrants crossing the border continues to fall, some iMiMatch users wonder if they will ever see their loved ones again.
